crystalline solids

Let us learn about crystalline solids

Crystalline solids are referred as a class of solids which have regular or nearly regular crystalline structures. Atoms in crystalline solids are arranged in an orderly manner.

Best Examples of crystalline solids are sugar candy, sugar, or rock candy.

Sugar powder which is solid but is not considered crystalline consists of small invisible grains which can be heated up and converted to visible sugar crystal or to larger rock candy crystals. The crystalline nature of rock candy makes it transparent whereas power sugar from that it was made & has the same sugar molecules is opaque.

Crystalline solids have always sharp melting points, indicating the presence of a long range order arrangement in them. The long-range order is because to the regular arrangement of the constituent’s molecules, atoms or ions throughout the 3 dimensional networks of crystals.
