least count of vernier calliper

Let us learn about least count of vernier Calliper

The meter scale which is used to measure the length of the nearest millimeter only. Scientists & Engineers need to measure much smaller distances accurately. For such a special kind of scale called Vernier scale is used.

Vernier Calliper

The Vernier scale includes a main scale graduated in centimeters & millimeters. On the Vernier scale 0.9 cm is divided into 10 equal parts. The Vernier scale (caliper) depends on the least count of the vernier or the smallest reading which we can get with the instrument can be calculated as under:

Least count = 1 main scale (MS) division - 1 vernier scale (VS) division.

= 1 mm - 0.09 mm

= 0.1 mm

= 0.01 cm

The least count of the vernier

= Value of the smallest division on MS

Total number of division on VS

= 1mm/ 10 = 0.1cm/10

= 0.01 cm

In our next blog we shall learn about components of an ecosystem I hope the above explanation was useful.Keep reading and leave your comments.
