electronegative

Let us learn about electronegative

Electronegative is the tendency of an atom to attract electrons towards itself in a molecule of a compound. The value of electronegative of an element describes the ability of its atom to compete for electrons with the other atom to which it is bonded. Electronegative is however not the property of an isolated atom.

Electronegative increases from left to right in each period ending at group VII.

In the 3rd period, electronegative increases from sodium to chlorine that is chlorine can accept electrons very easily in that period followed backwards by sulphur, phosphorus, silicon, aluminum, magnesium and sodium. All the atoms of the above mentioned elements have three shells only chlorine has the smallest atomic radii. Therefore chlorine experiences more positive charge from the nucleus than all other atoms in that period. therefore if one electron is available, chlorine can attract it most easily.

In our next blog we shall learn about algebra factoring I hope the above explanation was useful.Keep reading and leave your comments.
